Acupuncture for weight loss
Dr Oz explains how acupuncture helps with weight loss because it balances hormones, reduces appetite, curbs cravings, and boosts our metabolism.
Moira’s April Newsletter-Reproductive Health
Statistics show that one in five couples over the age of 30 have difficulty conceiving after one year of trying. Many of these couples turn to acupuncture and Oriental medicine for a safe, effective and natural solution to having a baby.
Successful conception is more likely when both partners are healthy. With acupuncture and Oriental medicine, parents can improve their health to create the most optimal environment for conception.
Moira’s March Newsletter-Allergies
Acupuncture and Oriental medicine have been used to treat allergies for centuries, and studies have confirmed that it can be helpful for allergic conditions including allergic rhinitis, asthma, eczema, hives and food allergies. According to Oriental medicine, treatment is directed toward clearing the nasal passages, supporting the immune system and strengthening the systems of the body to prevent allergic reactions from recurring.
Acupuncture Lowers Blood Pressure
Newly published research confirms that acupuncture reduces hypertension, high blood pressure. Researchers now know that acupuncture is effective for lowering blood pressure and reduces side effects of medication. Real acupuncture was found more effective than both a non-acupuncture control and a sham acupuncture control in this new laboratory experiment. As a result of this controlled experiment, the researchers concluded that acupuncture has a “stable antihypertensive effect.”
Additional research finds acupuncture effective in reducing blood pressure and in reducing the side effects of medications. Another recent study concluded that “acupuncture should be in the hypertension treatment guidelines and widely used for blood pressure regulation.”
How Acupuncture Relieves Pain
Inserting needles into the skin at peripheral sites (aka acupuncture points) “jumps” the neural threshold on the position nerve pathway, so that the signal can reach the brain. Once the brain recognizes there is pain and where it’s coming from it releases enkephalins (painkillers).
This initial response is very fast. It should be perceived as almost instantaneous by the patient. But after the needling therapy the patient goes home and the pain comes back. The old bad habit of the nerve chronically firing below the threshold re-establishes itself. The body, just like the mind, has a hard time breaking bad habits.
But if the patient returns in a couple of days to get another treatment, the neural threshold will be jumped again. And if you keep jumping the neural threshold, eventually the central and peripheral nervous system figures out that it’s better to operate in the non-pain state than in the pain state. The technical term for this is re-establishment of neurological homeostasis.
